What is Powershift?

The climate crisis is a problem that needs our urgent attention.

Since the industrial revolution, the global average temperature has already increased by more than 1 degree Celsius. This is mainly because of the greenhouse gasses that we continue to release into the atmosphere.

In order to avoid a horrifying world where the global average temperature is 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels, we must act now.
To do this, we need to halve our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 2010 levels. This means that, for the period between 2020 and 2030, we must decrease our emission by 15.4% every year.

Today, there is still a lot of action that must be taken to avoid the 1.5 degree scenario. Even at home, there are things you can do to help this situation.

As you can see in the graph below, in the average Japanese household, nearly half of CO2 emissions come from the use of electricity.
Therefore, if we all took steps to reduce the amount of CO2 emitted from our homes, we could make a significant impact in the effort to mitigate the worst effects of climate change.

As burning fossil fuels is the number one cause of climate change, it is necessary to transition to renewable forms of energy production.

This campaign, called “Power Shift”, aims to convince consumers to make the decision to switch to an energy provider that uses renewable sources of energy.

FAQ

No, nobody will need to visit your home and replace the electric wiring.
Yes. The various electricity companies all provide electricity to the same grid, so there is no change in grid reliability or in how the electricity gets to your home. The only thing that changes is the company that you choose to pay.
Most people don’t see any changes in their electricity bill after power shifting. Additionally, many companies provide “simulations” that can show you what your bill will be after you switch.
You may be able to find all the information you need by logging in to your online account with your provider. Many retailers only offer standard contracts, but there are some circumstances (such as homes having solar panels or a heat pump) for which special contracts are recommended. Larger retailers are more likely to offer a variety of contract options. We may be able to help you find a retailer that offers a suitable contract, so please contact us in that case.
