I really enjoyed switching my banks and electricity through Bank Shift / Power shift. Honestly I didn’t know, before doing it, how much it actually mattered and that you could take your own power back by actively choosing where your banking and electricity runs from. There’s so many secrets and folded pages we don’t get told from these big companies, and as a writer and activist over themes of awakening I feel being aware and proactive to counteract these violations is essential to all of us. That’s why I recommend great organizations like this to awaken, get informed and make expert decisions on big pockets in our sweater of life. Money & Power, the quintessential twins of world domination, the exciting part is that you get to decide if they are the better or worse family members to you.

I am so grateful for 350.org (especially) Japan, and the information I've received. Before joining events in Tokyo, I thought that petitioning the government or company CSR was the only way. I didn't know that Japan's megabanks (and MY own bank), had been supporting coal. That inspiration is what helped me to make the decision to shift. And I've aimed to share this information as much as possible. Whether it's with changing your energy provider, or changing your bank, or supporting the right companies, it's great to keep learning.

After some careful consideration how it would affect the way my company operates, I recently made a firm decision to Bank Shift. For a very long time, fighting global climate change seemed a very distant concept for me. But with the impressive and creative effort of 350.org, I felt very empowered to make a change that can be done with my own decision. It all started with a small curiosity of a friend's passionate activity, but learning that each one of us can make small changes to generate a wake-up call to mega banks seems like the way to go. So, I personally recommend everyone to utilise your own choices to Bank Shift/Power Shift for a better future for the next generations.

I had been very concerned about the climate crisis for a number of years. I supported the climate justice movement, but could not think of a way to personally make a meaningful contribution. As a long-term foreign resident of Japan, I was unable to even vote for meaningful change. And my limited Japanese language ability prevented me from organising within my local community. So I looked to the power I held as a consumer to exact meaningful change. I was dismayed to learn that the money I was putting aside in savings accounts for my family’s education and future was being invested in coal projects that the scientific consensus assures us will destabilise our ecological systems in the not-too-distant future, and likely lead to disastrous geopolitical consequences. 350 Eigo’s Bank Shift campaign taught me how I could save that money ethically and sensibly. And 350 Japan’s Power Shift campaign taught me how I could pay a renewable energy provider instead of supporting the existing providers who rely too much on burning fossil fuels, while encouraging a national shift to more sustainable energy production, without risking my family’s own power access or our finances. I urge other like-minded people to make the Bank/Power Shift, and to encourage others to do the same. The science tells us we only have a few more years to make a big difference. The general public cannot rely upon their leaders to take care of this. It’s our last chance to start caring, and acting, for the sake of those around the world who are in imminent danger, and for the sake of all our futures. Put pressure on your banks, business leaders and political leaders to make meaningful change. If enough consumers demand it, leaders will have to respond.
